Visit Malaysia 2026 Campaign Extended to 2027 as July Bookings Dip
Malaysia’s Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign will be extended through to the end of 2027, following approval by the VM2026 National Main Committee. The decision still requires Cabinet sign-off as of this writing, but Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed the committee’s agreement in late April, with the extension framed as a response to global uncertainty and flight disruptions that have weighed on inbound numbers this year.
The campaign’s original targets remain in place: 47 million international arrivals and RM329 billion (approximately USD 70 billion) in tourism receipts. Running the campaign through 2027 gives Tourism Malaysia more time to reach those figures.
July–October Bookings Are Down 10%
Tourism Malaysia data shows forward bookings for July to October 2026 are running at least 10% below the same period last year. The shortfall is linked primarily to reduced flight connectivity from the Middle East, where a 27.2% drop in West Asian arrivals was recorded in Q1 2026 amid regional flight disruptions.
The extension is partly designed to capture demand that would have come in 2026 but is instead being deferred. Improving regional stability - including a ceasefire between the US and Iran - is expected to ease some of the flight disruption that affected Middle Eastern visitor flows.
What the Extension Means for Travellers
Practically speaking, the Visit Malaysia promotional push - which includes discounts, joint campaigns with airlines, and tourism packages - will continue into next year rather than winding down in December. Travellers who have been watching prices will find that campaign-linked fares and hotel deals are likely to remain active through 2027.
Malaysia recorded 42.2 million international visitors in 2025, an 11.2% increase on 2024. Getting to 47 million over an extended window through 2027 is broadly achievable, depending on how quickly flight connectivity from key source markets recovers.
For travellers planning their trip, the best time to visit Malaysia guide covers the seasonal patterns that shape when to book - peak demand in July and August tends to push up prices, while searching for flights on Aviasales during shoulder months either side can surface better value. Our Kuala Lumpur hub covers the capital, which remains the most common entry point for international visitors.
